A Note from Our Teachers

This year marks our school’s inaugural participation in National History Day! Students in some College Prep World History, College Prep U.S. History and AP World History classes worked all 1st semester on learning research skills, creating annotated bibliographies and, finally, putting together research projects.  Students chose a topic that interested them and the type of project they wanted to create, either exhibit, documentary, webpage, paper or performance.  While their project needed to fit into the National History Day theme, they were very much the driving force behind the projects you see today.

We are thrilled with the quality of work that these students created.  Creativity and hard work is clear in each one of these projects.  Some of these projects will advance to the County competition.  Winners at the County competition can advance to the state, and potentially, national competition.

We are so proud of all these students and their hard work.  Congratulations!

National History Day (NHD) is an annual contest that engages students nationwide in the extensive research of a historical topic. Students work exhaustively in both exploring history and creating a product that demonstrates mastery of their topic. Each year, the NHD organization identifies a theme for that year's student competition. This year's theme is"Debate and Diplomacy: Successes, Failures and Consequences."  Students choose any topic within this theme and design a product that fits into one of the following categories: paper, performance, documentary, exhibit, or website. Learn more about the five categories by clicking here. Students then compete at the local and possibly national levels. Students who participate in this project have shown improvement in critical thinking, writing, research, and 21st century college- and career-ready skills. They have shown growth in their ability to analyze and synthesize information, collaborate with peers, and manage their time. In addition, participants have learned perseverance and strong work habits. Learn more about the many benefits of this project by clicking here.
